G16 A Academy Remarkable Season

The Northbridge U16 Red Academy team capped off a remarkable season with a dominant 7-1 victory against Bonnyrigg FC in the Champion of Champions Grand Final at Valentine Park on Sunday.

The Northbridge Academy team of the year rose to the challenge of the big occasion and while the result was one sided, the red and white had to work hard against a skillful and determined opposition.

But it was the Northbridge passing game driven from midfield that ultimately the champions of Southern Districts had no answer for, as the Academy team time and time again shifted the ball around the park with unbroken sequences of up to 13 passes opening up Bonnyrigg time after time.  Every player contributed in a true team performance.

Northbridge’s forwards were clinical and ruthless, and the scoreline made amends for results that flattered some opposition earlier in the campaign.  Team captain Liv Kearney led the line and scored five, with Arabella Ohlsson and Arabella Hendricks also finding the net.

While there were plenty of goals scored, special mention must be made of the Northbridge defence.  During the NSFA season the ‘Great Wall of Northbridge’ conceded just seven goals.  They were even more miserly in the Champion of Champions competition, conceding just two goals in five games against the very best NSW community teams.

Congratulations to all players  and team officials for a stellar season  A special mention must be made to coach Ciaran McCabe who has worked with this group of players for many years and built an outstanding team who have impressed all with their skill, determination and sportsmanship, and shown themselves to be at the pinnacle of youth community football in NSW.

From all at Northbridge FC – congratulations on your hard work being rewarded with this result and we are proud of you all.
