End of an Era for Talented NFC Academy Girls
End of an Era for an Outstanding Northbridge FC Academy Cohort.
2021 marks the end of a remarkable youth football journey for the Northbridge U18 Women’s side. But a premature end to the 2021 season does not diminish what this talented group of players has accomplished.
The team had set their sights on achieving a rare ‘treble’ in 2021: seeking to retain their 2020 Diamond League title and winning the FNSW State Cup the Champions of Champions, with almost all players balancing football with HSC studies. The team will have to settle with retaining their Diamond League title, going through the season undefeated and content with still being ‘alive’ in the State Cup when it was cancelled.
An indication of just how dominant this squad has been the team has lost just one NSFA match in the past three seasons (incidentally this was their first U18 match against another Northbridge side). In this time they have won the 2021 and 2020 U18 Diamond League and 2019 U16 Diamond League titles. The stand-out highlight was the 2019 Champions of Champions success with a comprehensive 7-1 win in the final. In more junior years the team also won the 2017 U14 Diamond League title.
As incredible as the results of this team have been, the way these talented players have played the game with fairness and positivity has regularly drawn praise from opponents, officials and spectators. The players have built lasting friendships and we are all excited to see this cohort of players transition to the club’s all-age teams in 2022. The future is certainly bright in red and white!
From all who have been involved with this team, we have loved every minute of being part of your journey through youth football, and we wish you every success for the future. Congratulations on all that you have achieved.
